A fine alpine from south-eastern Tibet where it grows on soil covered scree between 3,500 and 5,200 metres. In the UK grow in a rock garden or well drained soil in full sun. The lance shaped leaves are followed by many early summer flowers with numerous violet petals and a yellow-golden centre.
It is used in Tibetan medicine for example to help with bronchitis, cold and pain relief.
