A native shrub with prickly evergreen leaves and red berries. It has edible young shoots, contains a medicinal substance of use in jaundice and gravel, and is used as a Christmas decoration in the home and church. We have a self-pollinating dwarf variety that fruits freely as well as the wild form which produces spiky foliage.
