A large deciduous shrub that is easier to cultivate, and is effective in a different way to the Panax species. The root and leaf contain a fairly strong tonic that stimulates the metabolism, regulates blood pressure and strengthens the vitality of the immune system. Grow in a semi shaded site at the back of the border. Root prune in the winter and use fresh or dried.
